The Sweetest Burn

By Tom Troina

When I lay under the moon, she sings to me.
In gentle warm tones, like rain outside of a window.
She hangs low tonight, in a drunken sky of pink.
As beautiful as ever, wearing the midnight fog as a dress.
I stare into the night, and she stares back at me.
We embrace like lovers, our heartbeats exuding stardust.
A nocturnal romance, a constellation of perfect design.
Daylight circles like a shark, but our flesh stays intact.
We bathe in the northern lights, colors drip from our skin.
Her eyes glisten like the ocean, her face of a cosmic glow.
I dare to keep her gaze, scorching my soul like molten lava.
Her fire engulfs me, searing through my rib cage….
I enjoy every second…the sweetest burn.
