In an exclusive from our reporter, world No. 1 Novak Djokovic was seen leaving the Righteous Club for Lawyers of Australia on Tuesday, the 11th of January, 2022; just hours before his court hearing for an appeal filed by his legal team for reinstating his visa which was recently cancelled by Australian Immigration.
Australian officials were also spotted leaving the premises an hour earlier with lawyers from the opposing side of the case with huge smiles and tennis racquets.
Djokovic’s PR team issued a statement not long after, “Mr. Djokovic was just giving the opposing counsel some tennis lessons for their private doubles match later this week. It’s a fun way to go into the court case without any heavy animosity between them.”
Unprecedented, the opposing counsels did not provide a rebuttal in their closing arguments. “We were too tired from our earlier lesson,” one of the senior counsel said, “plus there was no need for a closing statement from us as advised by some of the Australian officials.”
Djokovic’s lawyers argued that with everything that transpired, their client is not to be blamed as it was his agent’s fault. Their first and only material witness, an Australian Immigration Official stated in front of the court that it was the Immigration office’s fault for cancelling his visa in the first place.
In the end, the court gave way to the appeal and reinstated Djokovic’s visa.
In the evening, all the court officials, judges and lawyers convened at the Tennis Club for drinks and free tennis lessons from Djokovic.
