Dance with Crows

By Clover Gislason

Crows tear smiles from their lips

The dead rest in the light of day

Butterflies dance on our bodies

By bullets and blade

Children lay frozen in their play

Crows tear smiles from their lips

In fields and lawns

We all fall laughing

Butterflies dance on our bodies

They know not right from wrong

But they laugh all the same

Crows tear smiles from their lips

Life spins us in a dance

We switch partners

Butterflies dance on our bodies

Our dance is short and sweet

And oh, as forgettable as it can be

Crows tear smiles from their lips

Butterflies dance on our bodies
