Gatsby

By L.M. Mensch
gatsby_small

I’ll refrain,
To save us a fight.
No time, no energy,
For this useless fight.
Yet you insist,
Don’t hold your breath, darling.

I should have been with another,
You should have been with him.
So come and sit,
As poison drips from our tongue,
My feet are cold!

We’re too young for this,
But too old to turn back.
Spin the arm, foresee the prophecies,
Pluck them quick!
But they’re fragile and meek.
It’s hard to swallow but I see,
I’ll be yours forever, no?
