God of Summer

By Elise Valle

She should be happy to sit in the sun,
She should thaw out like a steak,
She should be ivy on a fence reaching up and up and up,
She should be green and eager and willing,
She should be promises how seasons are promises,
She should be summer and get hotter every year,
She should be global warming and make everybody mad,
She should be stained glass and make everybody religious,
She should floss her teeth with telephone wires,
She should reincarnate as a corgi and not explain why,
She should fold her madness the Marie Kondo way,
She should know what brings her joy,
She should sand off her cellulite with a rock,
She should wrap herself in plastic,
She should hang bells on heaven’s door knob,
She should kiss her own feet.
