Grandma’s tooth

By Siddhi Soman

Grandma’s tooth is in a jar.

Gnarled,
Losing luster,
Floating aimlessly.

Is it white or yellow or cream?
Smooth or irregular?
Wait, is it chipped?

The edges look razor sharp,
Bent with time,
Maybe grandma ate bones.

Grandma’s tooth is in a jar.

I could plant it.
Feed it bones and blood.
Sprout eyes, ears, limbs, organs,
I’ll grow my grandma.

Grandma’s tooth was in a jar.

It was the only thing I ever knew about her.
