Ouroboros

By Michael J. Clark

Two old men sit atop chairs at a table practically as old as time. The first old man begins to

speak his thoughts in his mind.

The other old man reacts to the first old man’s words with angry vitriol and venomous spite. The

first old man responds in kind. They bicker back and forth like a game of ping pong.

Back and forth.

Tides pulling in and out.

A wheel spinning in place.

The sun rising and setting.

The same, tired, overplayed, loud song on loop.

Arguments met with counterarguments.

Counterarguments lead to louder voices.

Louder voices lead to name calling.

Name calling leads back to arguments again.

Each viewpoint refusing to change, bend or break. Or even see where the other is coming from.

Politics, religion, art, family, friends.

It does not matter the topic or the people. All that matters is someone is right.
