Words Are Wishes

By Sera Forrest

Lips pursed in a kiss

I blow these phrases in one deep breath

Out into the sunrise

Praying to connect, longing to bring meaning

But they are for me as much as for you

(When I write them solely for others they are hollow,

Their mystery lost-

though writing is such solitary stuff)

These hymns are magic

And carry my dreams like dandelion fluff

Out into the ether

Off in the world

May these seeds to take root

in the hearts where they land

May my words

Bloom where they are planted

And bring me peace

in my loneliness

and connection in the dark
