Glass House

By Shannon West

The house is made of glass
I only noticed recently
No one else has noticed
only me

The house is made of glass
My gaze bears daggers cracking the panes
A spiderweb taking shape
letting droplets in from the rain

The house is made of glass
The others don’t seem to care
But I’m unraveling,
now that I’m aware

The house is made of glass
I become intimately familiar with its design
I can’t eat, I can’t sleep,
toeing sanity’s line

The house is made of glass
So fragile it could shatter
If I leave
Would it really even matter?

The house is made of glass
I’ll go quietly in the night
My reflection silently disappearing
from sight

They won’t follow
Because they wouldn’t dare
The house is made of glass
And they like it there
