To My Love

By Alexandra Grant

Wave after wave, crests

with each ascension, descension

Gathering at some unknown point

traveling to its unknown destination

Love’s waves ebb and flow

an ocean of emotions

The seas are, at times, calm

at times, filled with commotion

I don’t know where love began

Don’t know from where it came

I do know it’s lasted

I know its embers and its flame

Years of traveling, long distances

The straight, narrow, direct courses

Curved, with twists and turns as well

Across byways and bridges

At times, I am in love

At times, I dearly love you

I may not always be in love

But know my love is true

My love for you never ends

Disputes and wrongs have no effect

Love has no conditions

It has no concern for defects

You’ve woven your spirit into mine

I know and feel your aches

I know what makes you happy

Know every laugh and heartbreak

My heart is always full and at peace

Your love leaves me in no doubt

I feel the support and constancy

Your love’s depths, in plenty and in drought

I never fear your love

I fear its absence from my soul

Losing you would ruin me

My heaven would turn into Sheol

Don’t ever leave me alone

without you in this life

My longing for you would never cease

Until we reunite in heaven as husband and wife
