- The Coffin Switch
Mummified remains of a deceased priest named Hor-Djehuty were believed to be inside an elaborate coffin obtained by the University of Warsaw.
About 200 years later, in 2016, investigators discovered something peculiar with the mummified remains. Lo and behold, it was unearthed to be the remains of an unidentified woman rather as the inscription indicated, a man.
Not only did they find that it was a woman, but also that the woman was pregnant when she died.
According to the Smithsonian magazine, experts with the Warsaw mummy project do not know who the woman was or exactly where her body was discovered. Though the individual who donated the mummy to the university claimed it came from the royal tombs at Thebes, a famed burial site of ancient pharaohs, the study notes that “in many cases antiquities were misleadingly ascribed to famous places in order to increase their value.”
