Uninvited

By Sara Gilbert
uninvited

notes chime your words
on an otherwise silent
screen. that same spike
of adrenaline bursts in my
veins uninvited

inspiration comes in bursts too
wrinkled sepia snapshots smiles
at cell phones lighting up
dark rooms

countdowns.
fireworks.
black starry skies.
your planets.
my transits.

as usual, all roads lead
nowhere. just to patches
of dead desert roses
dried, crinkled, lifeless
their beauty just transformed

life and color swapped
for fragile preservation
creased, crumbled,
too hard to hold

silence is incapsulating
a hypnotizing midnight
blue, frozen fixed and
hushed but I can hear the
ice cracking

outcomes flash in my mind:
drowning in remnants of you
or once again swimming
through icy waters, broken and
raw, back to my own shores
